Yesterday we went to this place. http://www.greeka.com/cyclades/santorini/santorini-museums.htm

It is a tiny museum which houses the finds from Akrotiri (The site is typically closed while we are here) and is well laid out starting with fossils of olive tree leaves, there are many examples of votive "nipple jars" with the swallow motif which seems to have been adopted by many of the bars and hotels of Modern Fira. There are some extremely decorative pitha (the large alibaba type jars which are so fascinating to small children). The piece de resistance seems to be the perfect little golden Ibex which was found intact.

After this had a look in the magnificent cathedral before we wandered the streets, looking at the tat and going in and out of various bars (some rather overpriced at 6 euros for an ouzo) and snacking on giros till we settled in Louis bar to watch yet another splendid sunset. We then had an interesting bus journey |-| back to the resort and on our return around 10.30 pm, we felt the need to drink our way through the cocktails on the list in the soul bar which then called for another round of giros, (chicken for Mr S and ommelette for me) Old Nick declined (no wonder he is a skinny wotsit).

Today has been extremely hot so after lounging about around the pool all day we needed a little snooze after lunch.

In other news I was distressed, no, positively shocked or even scandalised to discover that here they do not dunk bikkits into the Vin Sante, but rather it is enjoyed at breakfast. Hmmmmmmmmmmm well ok it does go rather well with youghurt and honey I s'pose (or a handful of dried apricots and nuts if push came to shove). :lalala:

Oh well I like to imagine I am a broad minded person and am happy to try both methods Greek and Italian if need be. Ahem.

Anyway,I was forced to visit the local 24 hour bakery, where they do damn good pies including mousaka pie. AND it appears that the little old lady who bakes the goodies also produces a number of varieties of bikkits including cinnamon, raisin and sesame seed, which are nice but rather heavy, or apple and cinnamon which, in my humble opinion go best with the vin sante and also a number of bikkits containing molten chocolate which are rather fine with chilled local wine.

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooo, it is not really my fault that I am putting on weight it is just that i am being open minded about enjoying a different culture.
