Not long back from a nice steak and chips with Mr S in one of the local pubs. It is nothing special just something like a Brewers Fare I think, but they do some of the best steaks in the area and it is really cheap.
It was nice and quiet in there tonight too because it was midweek and Mr S and I were looking forward to some peace and quiet and a nice chat. No such luck! Oh no! We get the overenthusiastic waiter who asks us if we have been there before and know how to order (fair enough), shows us the specials board (OK), keeps asking if we need the menu explained (it is fish and chips, steak and chips or pie and chips for God's sake what's to explain) and then hangs around interrupting us every 5 mins before bringing the food to ask if we are ready for another drink yet. Brings the food asks if we would like anything else, so we ask for mustard and black pepper, brings back the mustard but stands there yakking about how he can't find the black pepper for about 10 mins then puts the mustard on the table and wanders off returning with the black pepper. Then stands there Yakking and asking us if we enjoyed our meal or if we want another drink, tea, coffee desert. To be honest I am surprised he didn't just pull up a chair and sit down and join in the conversation.
Poor guy I think he was under occupied, ansd trying hard to impress so he could get a tip. But over attentive waiters (like pushy shop assistants) just get my back up. They don't get tips they are just irritating and they are the kiss of death to any night out.
Suffice to say we left about an hour before we planned to.
