The 4th of July is about celebrating American independence from England why is it that half the population of the UK seems to be celebrating it too.

Not complaining, just asking for a rational explanation.

Are we celebrating our severance from them, or our unity with them?

I don't know, but I was happy when Angola became independent of Portugal?

Think it is just a time to party. My Mexican neighbors are having a great 4th party all with Mexican music. Which can be heard blocks away. Actually I kinda like the music Hope thier all having a great time

LOL! I saw that too. My UK clients were on a holiday and when asked they said, it's the 4th of July. Left me dumbfounded, it did. I guess it's just one more holiday then, isn't it?
